PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education Consultation 2023

Thank you to all parents, staff and stakeholders who contributed to our 2023 consultation period. Following the feedback from parent meetings, sharing of the policy/lessons and also staff and governor meetings we are happy to share with you our updated policy. This has also been sent to parents via ParentMail.

Please see the consultation parent letter below which contains outcomes of the consultation and further information:

Parent letter overview following consultation 2023

We have taught Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) in school for many years and have always followed the DfE guidelines. Relationship Education and Health Education are both statutory, this includes lessons on Puberty. These lessons are taught through our spiral, age appropriate scheme called Jigsaw. Your child receives a JIGSAW overview each half term so that you can see the lesson objectives, key vocabulary and so that you can support your child at home alongside the lessons being taught in school.

Within the policy, there is an overview table that highlights the areas of Relationship and Sex Education lessons that parents have the right to withdraw their child from (these are the sections highlighted in red only and are taught in year 5 and 6).If parents wish to do so they are requested to consult with the headteacher, Mrs Ashton, before they withdraw their child. The form to express your request to withdraw your child is available in the appendix of the school policy below. Please be aware that it is parents responsibility to complete and return the form within the consultation period so that the teacher is aware before the Sex Education lessons are taught.

If you do have any feedback please email comments or questions to headteacher@hendal.wakefield.sch.uk or rknowles@hendal.wakefield.sch.uk
