We are very fortunate to have our very skilled sports coach Mr Swift.

Mr Swift works with children across the school from Nursery to Year 6 and also upskills and offers CPD to teachers and support staff in school to ensure we have the outstanding PE curriculum that we do. School have the Platinum School Games award which we are very proud of.

Mr Swift plans his lessons carefully to ensure that within each lesson and every sporting opportunity he reinforces key messages relating to upholding British Values and also the Protected characteristics. PE and sports is an excellent way to break down stereotypes and to ensure children understand the importance of equality and inclusion for all. Our PSHE curriculum is closely linked to our PE lessons and objectives are carefully linked and taught each PE lesson.

Mr Swift offers a wide variety of sporting clubs and competitions. The school ensure all children have opportunities to take part in sporting clubs and competitions throughout their time at Hendal.

After school clubs include, football, multi skills and dodgeball. We take part in competitions such as rounders, wheelchair basket ball, cross country and much more. School are part of the Primary Football League with other schools in the local area.

We ensure that children with Special Educational Needs or an EHCP are included and actively identify competitions and clubs available. This includes Bocchia, Nerf Gun ‘movement’ wars, wheelchair basketball and bowling. We liaise with Outwood academy to take part in the targeted sports clubs on offer.

We are part of the Wakefield Healthy schools which brings an excellent opportunity for further sporting leadership and activities during lunchtimes which is led by our Sports Leaders in Year 5.
