At Hendal Primary school, nursery children and their parents are encouraged to become involved in the 50 things to do before you’re five activities. This initiative provides children and families with 50 exciting, open ended ideas for play with children from the ages of 0-5.

There are often lots of  local events that families can attend together that support some of these activities.

What do we do in Nursery?

Nursery packs

Upon entering nursery, parents are asked to download the 50 things to do before you’re 5 app for the Wakefield area.

Children are given a 50 things activity pack including a 50 things to do before you’re 5 poster.

Each time your child completes an activity they receive a stamp on their chart and a sticker. When your child reaches their 10,20,30,40 and finally 50 milestone they will receive a certificate for their achievement.

Children are set a 50 things activity to complete at home each week on the nursery learning flower as part of their homework.

Buddy Bear

Each week Buddy bear goes home with a different family to complete one of the 50 things activities. Nursery children are given the Buddy bear book to share pictures of their activities. On return to school children share the fun they had with Buddy using the book as a prompt.

50 things to do before you’re 5 stay and play

At the end of our first term in nursery we host a 50 things to do before you’re 5 stay and play in the nursery. Families are invited to join their child in nursery for a play session where a range of the 50 things activities are on offer for families to enjoy together. It is always a wonderful end to our first term in nursery together!
