On Monday 7th October Kathryn Thomas from Future in Minds delivered a whole school assembly on emotional well-being and discussed how children can manage their mental health positively. Following the assembly each class was presented with a ‘Mindfulness Toolkit’ that was taken back to class. The toolkit includes resources such as a ‘Worry Monster’, mindfulness cards and activities, motivating stress balls, empowering question cards and also a bank of activities for children to complete. We have worked closely with Future in Minds to ensure the resources and strategies are ones which services such as CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) recommend for young children.
As part of the assembly she also launched our new whole school initiative called ‘Mindful Minute’. The ‘Mindful Minute’ will take place every morning and every afternoon in all classes each day. This is a way of children building in strategies to start their day in a positive mindset and also an opportunity after lunchtime ‘refocus’ ready for an afternoon of learning.
