PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education Consultation

We have taught Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) in school for many years and have always followed the DfE guidelines. The DfE have recently reviewed their policies and the Education Secretary made Relationships, Sex and Health Education statutory in all schools. With this in mind we have reviewed our current policy and would like to take this opportunity to share it with parents/carers.

Relationship Education and Health Education are both statutory, this includes lessons on Puberty. These lessons are taught through our spiral, age appropriate scheme called Jigsaw.

Within the policy, there is an overview table that highlights the areas of Relationship and Sex Education lessons that parents have the right to withdraw their child from (these are the sections highlighted in red only). If parents wish to do so they are requested to consult with the headteacher, Mrs Ashton, before they withdraw their child.

If you do have any feedback please email comments or questions to headteacher@hendal.wakefield.sch.uk or rknowles@hendal.wakefield.sch.uk
